The Department of Bioengineering continues Lehigh’s tradition of world-class excellence in engineering education and research. We offer a full range of coursework and opportunities in applied and interdisciplinary bioengineering research for BS, MS, and PhD students, from nanoscale structures to large, complex and interactive systems. Our faculty prepare students to advance human healthcare through discovery and development of new technologies and affordable, personalized solutions in three principal target areas: a) Biocomputations and Modeling, b) Diagnostics, Sensors & Devices, and c) Materials & Therapies, with wide applications in the biopharmaceutical, biomedical and health-related industries. Our departmental faculty work in synergy with colleagues in the Lehigh University College of Health (COH), the Institute for Functional Materials and Devices (I-FMD), which focuses on synthesis, fabrication, processing, and characterization of materials, devices and related systems and the Institute for Data, Intelligent Systems, and Computation (I-DISC) which is devoted to the study of problems that involve massive amounts of data and/or large-scale computations.
