Session Title for Website and App: Alpha Eta Mu Beta: Mentoring for INnovative Design Solutions (MINDS) Scholars Program Workshop
Special Session Program Description: Alpha Eta Mu Beta (AEMB) is the international biomedical engineering honor society. The society was founded in 1979 and more than 50 student chapters nationwide at the more than 100 ABET accredited departments. AEMB was established to recognize and encourage excellence in the fields of Biomedical Engineering and Bioengineering and to promote a greater understanding of the profession. Members are recognized for their distinguished scholarship, exemplary character, and leadership. Through a variety of professional development activities, networking and service opportunities, students are encouraged to learn, to grow, and to have a positive impact on their communities. The goal of this session is kick-off our annual Mentoring for INnovative Design Solutions (MINDS) Scholars Program Workshop. This innovative program provides students with the opportunity to collaborate and network with peers and mentors across the country on a design project for a 5-month period, while building necessary engineering design skills, including three key considerations (project design, patenting, and market development) that are not usually stressed in coursework projects. During the workshop, MINDS participants (students and mentors) will hold their initial meeting, introduce themselves to each other and start their inter-university design experience.
