Session Title for Website and App: Collaborating with NIH Intramural Research Program Investigators – Tips and Opportunities
Special Session Program Description: The NIH intramural research program (IRP) (www.irp.nih.gov) contains approximately 1,200 Principal Investigators (PIs) that are conducting biomedical or behavioral research within the Intramural Research Program (IRP). Collaborations with IRP investigators are not limited to NIH but can be established and maintained with colleagues both nationally and internationally. This panel will discuss a opportunities to work with IRP investigators and key benefits of working with IRP investigators that may not be as well known. Graduate Program Partnership program (GPP), NSF INTERN program, co-investigator roles on proposals, and other formalized opportunities will be discussed as well as best practices from current IRP investigators with strong relationships with non-NIH investigators. Finally, strategies to make new research connections with IRP researchers will be shared including using the newly established BETA Center (Center for Biomedical Engineering Technology Acceleration) that has the mission of helping connect IRP investigators with biomedical engineers in the broader community to advance biomedical research.
