Session Title for Website and App: Interdisciplinary programs at NCI to accelerate research in fundamental cancer biology
Special Session Program Description: Program staff and NCI awardees will highlight program goals and current funding opportunities of several active research programs within the Division of Cancer Biology, including the Cellular Cancer Biology Imaging Research (CCBIR) program, the Cancer Tissue Engineering Collaborative, the Physical Sciences Oncology Network, the Cancer Systems Biology Consortium, and the Metastasis Research Network. The session will focus specifically on biomedical engineering approaches to study metastasis, drug resistance, and the optimization of immunotherapies. Examples of projects will be given to show the range and breadth of approaches and cancer questions being explored. Drs. Becker and Couch will provide specific information on NCI opportunities. Dr. Matilla, an early career investigator, will highlight the work being pursued within the CCBIR research center at the University of Minnesota. The remainder of the time will be saved for Q&A and discussion attendees.
