Session Title for Website and App: Demystifying graduate school options and application processes

Special Session Program Description: Navigating the graduate school application process is often challenging, requiring knowledge of academia and graduate institutional structures. This “hidden curriculum” includes what different graduate degrees offer, funding mechanisms of the programs, how to connect and match with a faculty member of interest, and the skills needed to submit a competitive application. We hope to demystify a portion of this hidden curriculum by focusing on the process of applying to graduate school and exploring differences in degree types from Master of Engineering, Master of Science (with or without thesis), and Doctoral degrees. This session will provide an overview of the preparation needed for graduate school, the variety of degree options available, the application and review process, and potential career paths to pursue following completion of a Master's or Doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering. This session will feature a short presentation overviewing types of degrees, types of admission processes, trends in enrollment, and career options, followed by a panel with admissions officers and program directors from various programs.
