Aiyana Fortin, B.S., is a graduate research assistant in the Bonassar Lab in her 3rd year of the BME PhD program at Cornell University. The objective of her research in osteoarthritis is to efficiently deliver promising arthritis therapeutics in the knee joint using a nanoparticle platform technology developed in the Wiesner Group at Cornell, the C' Dot. These ultrasmall fluorescent poly(ethylene glycol) coated silica nanoparticles have shown promising preliminary results in multiple investigational new drug (IND) FDA-approved diagnostic and therapeutic human oncology clinical trials. We seek to tailor the C' Dot platform for targeted delivery and extended presence in the joint to acheive improved joint health following intra-articular injection.
