Esra Tiftik Karabay is a fifth-year Bioengineering PhD student in the joint doctoral program between San Diego State University and UC San Diego. Her research explores cell transcriptional states and their mechanical response to intra- and extra-cellular signaling. Integrating cell external signaling such as growth factors, hormones, and extracellular matrix to cell cytoskeletal moieties, her current work examines how cell signaling heterogeneity contributes to cellular cytoskeletal organization, force generation, and migration in 3D environments. Before arriving at UCSD and SDSU, Esra completed her Master’s Degree in Chemical engineering from the University of Southern California and studied computational system biology and photoresponsive surfactants. She was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship from 2016 to 2018.
