NIBIB/ NIH
Bethesda, Maryland, United States
Dr. Manana Sukhareva is the Director of the Office of Scientific Review (OSR) at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering. She received her PhD in Physical Chemistry, then continued her post-doctoral training in Skeletal and Cardiac Muscle Molecular Physiology at the Department of Physiology, University of Wisconsin. Dr. Sukhareva moved to the NINDS intramural research program, where she first studied the origins of intracellular Ca signaling in hippocampal neurons during development and then the molecular structure-function of voltage-gated potassium channels. In 2006, Dr. Sukhareva transitioned from laboratory research to scientific research administration by joining first the Center for Scientific Review (CSR) as a Scientific Review Officer (SRO) and then three years later the NIBIB Office of Scientific Review, where she oversaw review panels for various NIBIB special programs, joint intra-agency review panels, and non-traditional NIH funding mechanisms. In 2017 she was selected to lead the NIBIB Office of Scientific Review. The NIBIB review office is responsible for managing the peer review of applications covering a broad range of NIH-wide and NIBIB-specific programs, which include Career Development Awards, Institutional Research Training Programs, Support for Development and Implementation of Education Projects and Training, Research Conference Support, NIH Loan Repayment Program (LRP), National Centers for Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (P41), and other special initiatives (PARs, RFAs) that fall within the scientific mission of NIBIB.
