Thea Nikolaou is a first-year Biomedical Engineering PhD student at Cornell University. She completed her undergraduate studies at Purdue University where she received a BSc in Biomedical Engineering. Thea is passionate about the improvement of human and animal health. Especially, in the development of point-of-care diagnostic devices and bridging healthcare inequities across the globe. Her current research is focused on the use of lateral flow technology for on-farm detection and quantification of cattle reproductive biomarkers to support dairy farmers in tracking the reproductive status of cattle. Additional interests include other lateral flow assay (LFA) applications and the expansion of LFAs to nucleic acid biomarkers.
