Jesse J. Waggoner, MD, is an assistant professor at Emory University in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases. His clinical and research interests focus on improving diagnostics for and the care of patients with acute febrile illnesses in the tropics. At Emory, he rounds on the inpatient service at Emory University Hospital Midtown, and he sees patient in the TravelWell Clinic both before and after their international travel. Dr. Waggoner's current research focuses on the development, implementation and evaluation of improved diagnostics for pathogens important to the global health community. He has developed a number of molecular tests for viral pathogens such as dengue virus, chikungunya virus, and Zika virus as well as assays for malaria and leptospirosis.
