Currently, I am working with ReGelTec to develop a polymeric hydrogel that can help alleviate back pain in situ by providing mechanical stability and swelling mechanics that mimic the properties of a healthy annulus. I have been working with the company since the summer of junior year when I was accepted into the 4+1 Biomedical Engineering Master’s program at Rowan University. Since then, I have worked closely with mr PI since my freshman year, conducting many projects in both the academic and industrial space. My Master’s thesis was centered around the chemical and particle characterization of the hydrogel to help better understand its degradation kinetics and behavior during manufacturing and when implanted into the spinal column. I am now pursuing my PhD and investigating the mechanisms of action of the hydrogel and its role in modulating an antiinflammatory response.
