Khadijeh Sharifi obtained her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) in Tehran, Iran. Subsequently, she gained valuable postgraduate research experience during a training internship with Dr. Manfred Windisch, PhD, in Graz, Austria. More recently, she joined the Department of Neuroscience and Neurosurgery at the University of Virginia as a postdoctoral researcher, focusing on neurogenesis and regeneration following ischemic stroke and other neurovascular dysfunctions. Khadijeh has specifically worked as a research associate with Dr. Petr Tvrdik's lab to investigate the role of microglia in ischemic stroke injury, as well as the role of Wnt signaling in adult hippocampal neurogenesis. Recently, she has made significant contributions to establishing and characterizing mouse models for cerebral cavernous malformations and the mechanisms of lesion formation in this disease.
