Zong-Ming Li, PhD, is the William and Sylvia Rubin Chair of Orthopedic Research, and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arizona. He serves as the Vice Chair for Research in Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Associate Director of University of Arizona Arthritis Center. Dr. Li completed his BS at Southwest Jiaotong University and MS in Sichuan University in China. He earned his PhD from Penn State University. His primary research interests lie in the musculoskeletal system, with a specific focus on the hand. Dr. Li contributes to understanding the intricate mechanics and motor function of the hand for the advancement of treatment strategies and rehabilitation approaches for hand-related conditions. Dr. Li has been honored with the ASME Savio L-Y. Woo Translational Biomechanics Medal in acknowledgment of his achievement in translational biomechanics research. In recognition of his contribution to the field, Dr. Li has been elevated to fellow status in several professional societies, including the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), American Society of Biomechanics (ASB), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS). Dr. Li is enthusiastic about serving professional societies. Examples include his presidency of the World Association for Chinese Biomedical Engineers, membership on the Executive Board of the American Society of Biomechanics, chairmanship of the Upper Extremity Topic Committee and Hand/Wrist Topic Committee of the Orthopaedic Research Society, membership on the Research Management Committee of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and presidency of Hand and Wrist Biomechanics International.
