Session Title for Website and App: Alpha Eta Mu Beta: Annual Meeting
Special Session Program Description: Alpha Eta Mu Beta (AEMB) is the international biomedical engineering honor society. The society was founded in 1979 and more than 50 student chapters nationwide at the more than 100 ABET accredited departments. AEMB was established to recognize and encourage excellence in the fields of Biomedical Engineering and Bioengineering and to promote a greater understanding of the profession. Members are recognized for their distinguished scholarship, exemplary character, and leadership. Through a variety of professional development activities, networking and service opportunities, students are encouraged to learn, to grow, and to have a positive impact on their communities. The purpose of the Annual Meeting will be to provide society updates, connect members from different chapters, and hold annual elections. Additionally the meeting will introduce Project Connect, AEMB's newest initiative. Project Connect's mission is to help biomedical engineering students at HBCUs apply to graduate programs. The program guides students with weekly discussions about their research experiences and personal motivations, while also introducing them to faculty from other universities, helping them identify graduate programs of interest, and providing feedback on their CVs and personal statements. Over 3 years the program has endorsed students to more than 50 faculty over 15 BME departments.
