Session Title for Website and App: Federal Agencies and Biomedical Engineering Research Careers (NIH, FDA, NASA, and NIST)
Special Session Program Description: Research positions in government are another career option open to biomedical engineers, and especially those with doctorates. There are a number of research career and research laboratory opportunities at federal agencies. This will be a panel discussion of researchers using their biomedical engineering training at National Institutes of Health (NIH), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST). This panel will discuss their career paths, transitions to federal lab research careers, and also ways to pivot from research backgrounds into other positions that support the federal science and engineering workforce.
