NEST Senior Design Engineer & Lecturer
Rice University, United States
I am a senior design engineer for the Rice 360 Global Health Institute's NEST program, seeking to deploy Newborn Essential Solutions and Technologies throughout sub-Saharan Africa. I teach undergraduates in Rice's Global Health Technologies minor, coaching them to solve real global health challenges.
I helped develop BiliDx, a CE-marked bilirubin measurement tool now deployed in sub-Saharan Africa.
My dissertation research created low-cost medical diagnostic tools to be used at the point-of-care in low-resource settings. I developed diagnostics for measuring hemoglobin concentration and diagnosing sickle cell disease. I also examined the variation of hematological parameters in successive drops of fingerprick blood.
