Dr. Brian Kwee, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Delaware. Dr. Kwee earned his B.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering with a Minor in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University in 2012. At Cornell, he worked in Dr. Claudia Fischbach's laboratory on 3D tissue engineered models of tumor angiogenesis. Dr. Kwee then moved to Harvard University, where he joined the laboratory of Dr. David J. Mooney. There, he worked on immunomodulatory biomaterials that can control the number and types of CD4 T-cells at sites of ischemic injury to drive vascular and muscle regeneration. During his time at Harvard University, Dr. Kwee received a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Upon completing his Ph.D. in 2018, Dr. Kwee joined the laboratory of Dr. Kyung E. Sung at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, where his research focused on evaluating the functional heterogeneity of mesenchymal stromal cells on biomaterials and on developing an on-chip lymph node paracortex. Dr. Kwee also received an Interagency Oncology Task Force Fellowship from the National Cancer Institute and the U.S. FDA during his time in Dr. Sung's lab. Dr. Kwee recently joined the faculty in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Delaware in January 2023. His lab's research builds upon the themes of immuonengineering, cell manufacturing, and tissue engineering.
