Jose Cadavid studied Process Engineering at Universidad EAFIT in Colombia, followed by a master’s degree in Process Systems Engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund in Germany. He then completed his PhD in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto, where he developed complex organoid and engineered tissue models of pancreatic cancer. Currently, Jose is completing his postdoctoral training with Linda Griffith and Doug Lauffenburger at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he is developing integrated computational and experimental methods to design and exploit microphysiological systems to study disease. Specifically, his work currently focuses on applications such as liver disease and endometriosis. Ultimately, he envisions the integration of systems biology with tissue engineering as a guiding principle for the design of more human-relevant models of disease, while at the same time allowing for the extraction of more meaningful biological and clinical insights from complex in vitro models.
