Session Title for Website and App: Increasing Undergraduate Participation and Leveraging Post-Baccalaureate Positions in Research Settings

Special Session Program Description: This panel brings together professors and a facilitator, one of the BMES undergraduate professors, to delve into the ways professors engage undergraduates in their research labs and leverage post-baccalaureate positions. Additionally, this panel discussion will be focused on discussing strategies for undergraduates who are not engaged because they have imposter syndrome, part-time jobs outside of college, and face other obstacles. The panel will also discuss providing education to students about research opportunities beyond post baccalaureate studies as well as encouraging professors to increase the amount of post baccalaureates in a lab. Topics will span from fostering collaborations between undergraduates and graduate students to strategies for identifying undergraduates who are a good fit for a lab environment. By sharing their experiences and insights, the panelists will help shed light on best practices for integrating undergraduates and post-baccalaureates into research settings and nurturing their growth as future contributors to the field of biomedical engineering.
